Obituary of Lambert Plat

Plat, Lambert Lambert a resident of Riverview Gardens, was called home to his Lord and Savior on Monday, November 7. He was born to the late Harm Plat & Jantien Plat-Oosting in Exloo, Netherlands on October 15, 1930. Lambert spent his early years in Tweede Exloermond, Drenthe. Following his service in the Dutch Army, he immigrated to Chatham, Ontario in 1953 to be with the love of his life, Stientje (Jean) Germs, daughter of the late Harm & Geesje Germs. Married in the First Reformed Church on August 27, 1955 where they remained active members. Lambert & Jean were blessed with four children: Janice DeMarse, Harry (1979), John (Liz Boodt Plat), and Linda (Ron) Postma. The blessings continued with the addition of grandchildren: Craig (Sue), Crystal (Jim), Jennifer, Albert (Karissa), April, Eric (Vanessa), Corey, Brian (Taylor) and Steven (Kayla) and great grandchildren: Liam, Joshua, Ava, Lydia, Addison, Jayda, Olivia, Micah, Joella and baby Plat due January 2017. Lambert is survived in Holland by brothers Jan & Henny, Geert & Grietje and sister Jantje & Henk Kiers. In Canada brother-in-law to Jake (2011) & Beth Germs, Gale (2007) Ron Steensma & Joanna Chmielowski, Hillie & Kees Cnossen. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Lambert was the founder and operator of Platco Welding & Equipment Repair. He was a gifted craftsman first with metal fabrication and later in retirement with wood. The many projects he created are treasured by each recipient. Lambert & Jean had the opportunity to enjoy winters in Florida and several trips throughout Canada, US and destinations abroad. A resident of Riverview Gardens for the past 14 months, Lambert received excellent care during his stay. We express our sincere thanks to Dr. Parry and the entire staff for the caring and compassion shown to our family especially during these last days. Family to receive friends at McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham, ON, on Thursday, November 10, 2016 from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will take place at the First Reformed Church, 632 Lacroix Street, Chatham, ON, on Friday November 11, 2016 at 1:30 p.m., with Rev. Barry Wynveen officiating. Interment in Maple Leaf Cemetery. Donations made in memory of Lambert to the Alzheimer’s Society or the charity of choice would be appreciated.
