Obituary of Douglas Floyd 'Dick' Holmes

HOLMES: Douglas Floyd ‘Dick’ - A resident of Blenheim, Doug Holmes passed away at the Blenheim Community Village, surrounded by his family on Monday, January 6, 2014 in his 83rd year. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Doug was the son of the late Clarence and Isabel (Green) Holmes. Beloved husband of 63 years to Grace Holmes (nee Rudman). Loving and dedicated father to Linda and George of London, John and Di of Clinton and Cindy and Stewart of Calgary. Proud grampa of Kara, Alyssa, Brodie, Melanie, Amy, Becky, Jeremy, Brad, Aren and Lukas. Great-grampa to 15 great-grandchildren. Dear brother to Marie Steel of Blenheim and Doris Snobelen of Ajax. Predeceased by his brothers Edwin, Hugh and David. Also missed by nieces, nephews, friends and extended family. Doug was a long-time community leader, and was very involved in the Scouts Canada movement. He coached hockey for a number of local teams in his younger years, and had enjoyed playing baseball. Doug was the former manager of McInytre Pharmacy in Parkhill, before returning to Blenheim to work at the Ford Funeral Home. Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 141 Park Street, Blenheim on Saturday, January 11, 2014 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Cremation will follow.
