Obituary of Mary Elizabeth 'Betty' Elenbaas

ELENBAAS: Mary Elizabeth “Betty” (née Lanigan). With love and sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved mother who died peacefully on October 2, 2013 in her 94th year. Betty was born on July 9, 1920 and raised with her siblings on a farm outside Chatham, Ontario. After graduating from St. Joseph’s Hospital in Chatham in 1941 she became a registered nurse, working at St. Joseph’s for several years before moving with her young family to Toronto in 1959. She had a dedicated career as a nurse at Scarborough General Hospital with a focus on maternity care until her retirement following 50 years of nursing. Betty is survived by her children Dick Caron (MarySue), Susan (John) and David (Michelle), her grandchildren Deanna, Jeff (Samantha), Meghan (Mark) and Ryan and great grandchildren Finn and Ella, as well as her brother-in-law Murray Wilcox, sister-in-law Irene Lanigan, her former husband Casey Elenbaas, and numerous nieces and nephews. Betty was predeceased by her first husband Dominic Caron, parents Raymond and Catherine Lanigan (nee Ennett) and her siblings Margaret, Catherine, Helen, Bill and Patrick and great granddaughter Aurora. In addition to her family, Betty’s passions were her deep abiding faith, reading, playing cards, Jeopardy and baseball, the last four of which are in no particular order.
