Obituary of Ernest Arthur Sykes

SYKES: Ernest Arthur – A resident of R.R. # 2 Merlin, Ernest Sykes passed away at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Chatham Campus with his family at his side on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at the age of 84. Born in Raleigh Township, Ernest was the son of Arthur and Dorothy (Abbott) Sykes. Beloved husband of the late Ruth Sykes (nee Hall) (2009). Loving father of Susan Baker (David) of Shrewsbury, Connie Sykes of Frontier, SK and Chuck Sykes (Lisa) of R.R. # 2 Merlin. Proud grandfather of six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Dear brother to Evelyn Broadbent (late Blake) of Merlin. He will be missed by several nieces, nephews, friends and extended family. Ernest farmed his entire life and retired from the South Raleigh Fire Department after many years of service. He was an active member of St. Luke’s United Church. Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 141 Park Street, Blenheim on Friday from 2:00 -4:00p.m. and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at the Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2013 with Rev. Eric Skillings officiating. Interment to follow at Pardoville-Union Cemetery. Donations made in memory of Ernest to the St. Luke’s United Church, Alzheimer Society or the Lung Association would be appreciated.
