Obituary of Odiel Alliet

ALLIET: Odiel - A resident of R.R. # 3 Thamesville, Odiel Alliet passed away at the London Health Sciences Centre, University Hospital on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at the age of 94. Born in Wyngem, Belgium, Odiel was the beloved husband of 70 years to the late Jean Alliet (nee Davis) (2012). Loving father of Mary Davies (Len) of Muirkirk, Ronald Alliet of Windsor, Art Alliet (Sharon) of R.R. # 3 Thamesville, Ken Alliet (Marie) of R.R. # 4 Thamesville and Raymond Alliet (Kelly) of Highgate. Predeceased by his son Albert (1985). Proud grandfather of Carla Bell, Janet Palmer (Aaron), Jeffrey Davies (Nikki), Robert Miller (Sari), Darcy Alliet (Darla), Shannon Alliet (Tim Watson), Scott Alliet (Nicole), Billie Jean Hartley, Valarie Alliet, Amanda Lake, Shawn Holcombe (Melinda) and Chris Holcombe. Great-grandfather to numerous great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his six sisters and four brothers. Also missed by many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family. Odiel was a veteran with the Belgian Paratroopers in World War II; he lost his sight as a result of an accident on his 13th jump in 1943. In 1945, Odiel travelled to Baker Hall in Toronto for rehabilitation where he became affiliated with the C.N.I.B. He ran the C.N.I.B. “Stand for the Blind” beside the Centre Theatre in Chatham in the late 40’s. After living in Blenheim for six years, he moved to the family farm in 1956 where he lived until his passing. Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 76 Main Street E., Ridgetown on Tuesday from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. A Legion Service will be held on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at the Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 with Fr. Martin Johnston officiating. Interment to follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery, Bothwell. Donations made in memory of Odiel to the C.N.I.B. or the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated.
