ARMSTRONG: Rev. Alvin – The Rev. Alvin Armstrong, born 1911, son of Gilbert and Eliza (Wigmore) Armstrong, Echo Bay, Ontario, passed away in Calgary, Alberta on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at the age of 101. Beloved husband of Wilma (Goodison) Armstrong; loving father of Richard (Lois) Armstrong, Florida; James (Ann) Armstrong, California; Judith (Larry) Hamende, Calgary, Alberta; grandfather of Krista (Larry) Batten, Innisfil, Ontario; Jeffrey (Song-Ae) Armstrong, Houston, Texas; Sheri (Ian) Cantle, Bradford, Ontario; Robert (Jenna) Armstrong, California; David Armstrong, California; Valerie Hamende, Calgary; and Tyler (Rebecca) Hamende, Calgary, Alberta; great-grandfather of James and Laura Batten; Matthew, Caitlin, Luke and Rachel Armstrong; Emma and Naomi Cantle. Brother of Douglas (predeceased); Curtis (predeceased); Bruce (predeceased); and Bessie (Lowery) Edmonton, AB; Ruth (Joe) Draper, Kitchener. Early schooling in Northern Ontario, ministerial training at Toronto Bible College, McMaster and Toronto Universities and Carleton School of Journalism. Ordained in Blenheim, 1941; married Wilma Goodison, 1941, Blenheim; pastorates in Blenheim, Sudbury, Toronto and Welland. Taught for 11 years at Toronto Bible College. Staff Writer, Kingston Whig-Standard newspaper. Retired to Blenheim, 1974; columnist Blenheim News-Tribune; published 10 books. Interim minister at Baptist, Disciples, Presbyterian and United Churches. Erie Street United Church conferred the title Minister Emeritus. Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 141 Park Street, Blenheim on Friday from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at the Blenheim Baptist Church, 24 Talbot Street. E., Blenheim with the Rev. Bill Terris and Rev. Kenneth Jackson officiating. Interment to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Blenheim.
