Mary McDougall

Obituary of Mary Ruth McDougall

MCDOUGALL : Mary Ruth. After a brief but brutal battle, Mary silently slipped away at the CKHA, Chatham Campus, on Sunday, August 26, 2012 at the age of 61. Cherished wife of Gerald (Jerry) McDougall of Chatham. Dear mother of John (Maria) Browning of Orillia and Elizabeth (Beth) Browning of Chatham. Dear step-mother of Kim (Rod) Bouchard of Windsor and Nikki (Jamie) Buston of Chatham. Beloved step-grandmother of 10. Dear daughter of the late Thomas (1991) and Patricia (2008) Pyman. Dear sister of Tom (Mary) Pyman of Toronto, Ray (Carmen) Pyman of Penetanguishene, Patricia (Kenny) Murphy of Midland, Maureen (Dan) Baldock of Portland, OR., and Vincent (Chrystal) Pyman of Midland. Also survived by many aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Mary faced and fought the foe with courage, determination, and above all, grace. Never one to seek sympathy or “ride the pity pony”, Mary chose that this fight be kept private, except for immediate family and closest local friends. In respecting and honouring Mary’s wishes, no visitation or funeral service was conducted. Cremation has taken place and her memory will be honoured at future family gatherings. A special thank-you to Dr. Don Hastings, Father Frank Leslie, and ALL of Mary’s care providers for their attention and compassion. Mary’s caring, compassionate, courageous ways were evident throughout her 34 years at Hydro One. Her commitment to justice for all enabled Mary to endure with dignity, those times when she found herself a target for enforcing her beliefs (it is certain that Pierre remembers Mary’s intercession, which helped save his job). Mary was always sympathetic to those in need, with an open mind, a supportive and encouraging manner, always willing to share great insight and advice. Mary was also known to “adopt” some adult “kids” in need of an extra Mom…Mike and Kim still remember…Mary is also survived by her ‘Sister from another Mister’, Shirley B. (and Wayne) and, last but not least, by her loving guard-dog and companion Yorkie, TAZ. In memory of Mary, donations to the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada, Community Living Chatham Kent, or the OSPCA Chatham-Kent branch would be appreciated by the family. At peace and resting with Our Saviour, all pain and suffering is over. Online condolences and donations may be left at www.mckinlayfuneralhome.com
