THOMPSON, Donald; A resident of Chatham, Donald Murray Thompson, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Chatham Campus at the age of 68. Born in Chatham, son of the late Donald & Margaret (Cook) Thompson. Cherished husband and best friend to Helen M. (Barko) Thompson. Loving dad to Deb & Ric Vlasschaert of Blenheim, and Pam & Phil Schneider of Blenheim. Grandpa to Tasha, Tamara, Dustin, Richard (Kelly), Erica, great-grandpa to Faith, Kaylee, Lucas, and Griffin. Brother to Trish & Gerald Swearingen, brother-in-law to Ann & David Leach, Nancy & Gary Hermsen, Joe & Fran Barko. Uncle to Collin & Jenny Swearingen and their children Madison, Spencer, Cameron & Laura Swearingen, Julie Leach, Jeff and Jennifer Hermsen, Carl, Scott, and Tracy Barko. Predeceased by brother-in-law Jim Barko, and beloved son-in-law to James & Agnes Barko. Don worked at National Grocers for many years before his retirement. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. Family to receive friends at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Tuesday from 2:00-4:00 & 7:00-9:00 p.m. Funeral Service will take place at the Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with Donna Green officiating. Interment to follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Blenheim. Donations in memory of Donald Thompson to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
