VLASSCHAERT: Austin – A resident of Blenheim, Austin Vlasschaert passed away at the Chatham Retirement Resort on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at the age of 92. Born in Belgium, Austin was the son of the late Edmund and Helena (Gerry) Vlasschaert. Loving husband to the late Angele Marie Vlasschaert (nee Verbeke) (2001). Loving father to Gerry Vlasschaert (Patricia) of Calgary, Elizabeth “Betty” Musson (Harold) of Chatham, Dr. John Vlasschaert (Martha) of Lakefield, Peggy Hart (Jim) of Calgary and Debby Vlasschaert of Edmonton. Proud grandfather of 15 grandchildren and great-grandfather to 19 great-grandchildren. Dear brother to Frank Joseph Vlasschaert (Brenda) of Kingsville. Predeceased by his sisters Angela DeBruyn and Loretta Rusal. Also missed by many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family. Austin was a World War II veteran, serving his country as a member of the Highland Light Infantry. He will be remembered for the 40 years he worked as a housepainter in Blenheim. Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 141 Park Street, Blenheim on Sunday from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the Funeral Home on Monday, February 6, 2012 with Fr. Pierre Wood officiating. Interment to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Blenheim. In memory of Austin’s wife Angele, donations made to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated by the family.
