Obituary of Margaret Hogan

HOGAN, Margaret – Margaret died peacefully and with dignity surrounded by her family at the age of 96 on September 15 2011. Margaret was born in Bothwell, Ontario on July 25 1915, the daughter of the late Joseph and Annie (Mead) Dillon. She is predeceased by her husband, Francis (1990) and survived by her daughters Ann McCann (Robert) of Tilbury and Catharine Hogan of Ridgetown, as well as by the grandson who she adored, Frank McCann of Tilbury. Margaret grew up in Bothwell, Chatham and Blenheim and in June 1940, she married Frank Hogan and moved to the family farm on the 7th concession of Howard Township. She was a proud member of the Catholic Women’s League of St. Michael’s Church, Ridgetown, the McKays Women’s Institute, as well as acting for a number of years as a 4-H Homemaking Club leader and assistant leader and a member of the Women’s Division of Ridgetown and District Fair Board. She enjoyed a happy retirement, filled with friends, family, playing bridge and the joy of travel. During her retirement, Margaret travelled extensively in both Canada and the U.S.A., and she was also able to visit France, Ireland, the Panama Canal, U.K., Italy and Greece as well as take a number of Caribbean cruises. Throughout her many years, Margaret was a dear and gentle soul, who lived her life with zest among her family and many friends. She was greatly loved and will be deeply missed. Visitation for Margaret will occur on Friday, September 16 2011 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at McKinlay Funeral Home, 76 Main Street East, Ridgetown, with parish prayers and C.W.L. prayers to occur at 7 p.m. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 17 2011 at St. Michael’s Church, 26 George Street, Ridgetown, with interment in St. Michael’s Cemetery. Anyone who knew Margaret well is asked to do a random act of kindness for a friend, acquaintance, or stranger that can be paid forward in her name. Those wishing to also make a donation in memory of Margaret are asked to consider either the Catholic Women’s League of St. Michael’s Church (Ridgetown) or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
