Obituary of Clayton Grant 'Clayt' Harris

HARRIS: Clayton Grant “Clayt” – A resident of Ridgetown, Clayt Harris passed away in Ridgetown with his wife Susan by his side on Sunday, August 7, 2011 at the age of 87. Born in Dover Township on March 31, 1924, Clayt was the son of the late Roy and Lena Harris. Clayt is predeceased by his wives Daisy and Mildred Harris, as well as his son Don Harris, his sister Margaret and his brother Walter. Beloved husband of Susan. Proud grandfather of Kevin, Kimberly and Rebecca. Clayt will be missed by his 7 great-grandchildren, his three nieces and six nephews as well as his brother Alan. Clayt was the proprietor of the horse stables in Rondeau Park for 27 years, also working as a carpenter for 30 years. Clayt will be remembered for his strict moral principals and his integrity. He served in the R.C.A.F. for four years. He later joined the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 243 in Ridgetown and is honoured as their longest standing member. He also served three terms as their President. No stranger to volunteer work, Clayt had also been a member of the Oddfellows, the Agricultural Society and the Fair Board. It is no surprise that Clayt had been given the ‘Volunteer of the Year Award’. Family will receive friends at Grace Anglican Church in Rondeau Park on Thursday, August 11, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. – 1:45 p.m. Legion Service to be held at 1:45 p.m. A Memorial Service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Mr. Paul Silcox officiating. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations made in memory of Clayt to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 243 would be appreciated by the family.
