Obituary of Gordon 'Al' Shackleton

SHACKLETON, Gordon “Al”: A resident of Chatham, Gordon “Al” Shackleton passed away at his residence on August 1, 2011 at the age of 87. Born in Chatham, Al is the son of the late George and Gladys Shackleton. Beloved husband of Dorothy (Farrell) Shackleton. Cherished father of Linda Keech of Chatham. Predeceased by his infant son Blake. Beloved grandfather of Jesse Keech of Chatham. Fondly remembered by his cousins Liz and Jerry Shackleton of England and Jen Rogers of England. Al will be remembered for his community involvement over the years. He was involved with starting up the Chatham Pee Wee Baseball League, was a member of the Chatham Maple Leafs hockey team, a Kiwanis Club Member, a member of the Blenheim Golf Club, a curler, a pilot, a drummer in several orchestras including the Ronson Band and the Chateau Gae Orchestra. Al was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 628 and served in WWII with the Canadian Air Forces. A Memorial Service will take place at Christ Church, 80 Wellington St. W, Chatham, on Friday, August 5, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. with the Venerable Paul Millward officiating. Interment to follow at Christ Church Memorial Gardens. Donations in memory of Al to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Chatham-Kent OSPCA would be appreciated by the family.
