Obituary of Edward Roy Willmore

WILLMORE, Edward Roy (Ted), of Chatham, Ontario. Edward (Ted) Willmore passed away at Riverview Gardens, on Tuesday October 26, 2010. Born in Northern Saskatchewan, 90 years ago, son of the late Roy Willmore and Alice (Stebbings). His wife, Julia (Cartier) predeceased in 2001. Beloved father of Susan & Steen Klint of Barrie (Craig & Valerie Klint, Carl Klint), Mark & Cathy Willlmore of Blenheim (Paul & Cathy Willmore, Stephanie & Drew Macklin), Tom Willlmore of Fort Erie (Shannon & Jamie Gale, Julie Willmore), Cindy & Brian Poole of Whiterock, B.C., (Andrew, Ted, Bill & Joe Hastings, Matthew & Simon Poole), Larry & Janet Willmore of Woodstock, (Kyle Willmore,) Barry Willmore of Chatham (Cole Willmore), and Brad Willmore of Toronto. Loving grandfather to 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Dear brother of Muriel Langstaff of Morpeth, Harry Willmore and wife Claire of Dover Centre. Dear brother-in-law of Betty Willmore of Oil Springs, Mary Lou and husband Vern Bechard of Markham, Catherine and husband Vince Gregorio of Chatham, Vera and husband Ron Sadler of Chatham, Glen Powers of Chatham and Evelyn Cartier of London. Predeceased by brothers Tom and John; sisters-in-law Clara Jane Kiekens, Mary Cartier, Monica Cartier, Fran Cartier, Kay Cartier, Helen Powell and Shirley Powers; brothers-in-law Ed Cartier, Wilfred Cartier, Harry Cartier, Alfred Cartier, Henry Cartier, Robert Cartier, Bob Flanagan, Lorne Powell, Joe Kiekens, & Alfred Langstaff. Ted served with the Kent Regiment during World War II and in 1948 he joined the Chatham Police Service, retiring in 1985 as an Inspector. He was very active in the community and was involved with the Knights of Columbus, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 28, Senior Citizens Centre, the Goodfellows and was a very special friend to Elmer the Safety Elephant. In 1980 he was named “Mr. Goodfellow”, a title which suited him well. Ted will be missed by many and remembered for his caring manner and sense of humour. Sincere thanks to all of the staff at Riverview Gardens for making his final years as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Friends will be received at the McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair St., Chatham on Thursday October 28, 2010 from 2:00-4:00 & 7:00-9:00 p.m. A Legion Memorial Service will be conducted on Thursday at 6:45 p.m followed by a Knights of Columbus Service at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Chatham with Fr. Richard Cartier and Fr. Daniel Bombardier celebrants. Cremation to follow with Inurnment in the Mauseleum of Maple Leaf Cemetery at a later date.
