Obituary of Peter DeBruyn

DEBRUYN: Peter A. J. A resident of Ridgetown, Peter DeBruyn, passed away peacefully, on Saturday, October 9, 2010, at the Ridgetown Village Nursing Home, at the age of 84. Born in Drimmelen, The Netherlands, son of the late Petrus & Anna (Boons) DeBruyn. Beloved husband of the late Johanna (Sommers) DeBruyn (1996). Loving father of Peter DeBruyn of Mississauga and his daughter Dallas; John & Mary Anne DeBruyn of Blenheim and their children Marla, Britney, & Brady; Joe & Maryanne DeBruyn of Ridgetown and their children Rachael, Renee, & Sonja; Harriet & Ray Breault of Ridgetown and their children Leigh Ann, Ryan, & Jillian; Raymond DeBruyn of Richmond, B.C. and his children Adrienne, Aaron, & Kyle; Michael DeBruyn of Guelph and his children Matthew, Joshua, Emily; and Joanne & Dave Anderson of Thamesville and their children Hannah & Samantha. Peter is the proud grandfather of 18 grandchildren. Dear brother of Suzanne Boelaars of The Netherlands, Antonette & Dion Van Roessel of Sydney, B.C., Marinus DeBruyn of Ridgetown, and Hubertus & Toos DeBruyn of The Netherlands. Peter is predeceased by his brother Jos DeBruyn (1990) and 1 granddaughter Lia DeBruyn (1994). Also survived by many nieces & nephews, and the Sommers family in Holland. Peter served in the Dutch Military Service as he fought overseas in Indonesia from 1947-1950. Peter spent many years farming in the Ridgetown area before his retirement. He was a longtime member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Peter was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #243. Please join Peter’s family as they receive friends at the Funeral Home, 76 Main Street, East, on Monday, October 11, 2010 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. & 7:00-9:00 p.m. With Parish prayers at 6:45 p.m. and a Legion Memorial service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 12, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, with Fr. Raj celebrant. Interment to follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery. Donations made in memory of Peter to the Canadian Jesuit Missions or the Canadian Cancer Society are welcomed and appreciated by the family.
