MARTENS, William A resident of Chatham, William “Willy” Martens passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance at the age of 80. Born in Chatham, to the family of the late Theophilus & Seraphine Martens. Beloved husband to Maria Martens (nee VanCaille) for 56 years. Cherished father to Margaret & Case Hems, Paul & Ann Martens, and Wayne & Louise Martens all of Chatham. Forever missed by his grandchildren Michael (Stacey) Hems, Kelly Hems (Adam Gervais), Crystal & Jessica Martens, Jhaquelline & Khristyn Martens, and his 4 great grandchildren Ava, Logan, Owen, and Grace. Dear brother to Alice Boussen (Frank), Mary Van De Wynckel (Robert), Robert Martens (Julie), and Agnes Deketelaere. Predeceased by his sister Eugenia Staal, and brothers Antonius Martens, Joseph Martens, Alphonse Martens, and Theophilus Martens. Missed by many nieces and nephews. William was a member of the Knights of Columbus, enjoyed fishing, farming and playing euchre at the Belgium-Dutch Canadian Club. Family to receive friends at the Funeral Home on Tuesday from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Parish Prayers at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Cremation to follow. Donations in memory of William Martens to the Canadian Cancer Society or St. Joseph’s Catholic Church would be appreciated by the family.
