Obituary of George 'Alan' Fisher

FISHER: George ‘Alan’ – A resident of Ridgetown and formerly of Morpeth, after a courageous battle with cancer Alan Fisher passed away at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Chatham Campus surrounded by his four daughters and his close family friend Eileen Bolton on Wednesday, August 4, 2010 in his 81st year. Born in Morpeth, Alan was the only child of George and Lulu (McDiarmid) Fisher. Beloved husband of the late Margaret Fisher (1996). Loving father of Jane Taylor (Andrew) of Oro Station, Karen Brunklaus (Martin) of Springford, Lisa Fisher-Nooyen (Rob) of Ridgetown and Diane Yeck (Wayne) of Ridgetown. Proud grandfather of Dylan, Jenna and Katie Taylor, Hannah, Holly, Keenan and Nicholas Brunklaus, Kyle and Spencer Nooyen and Lindsay and Sydney Yeck. Brother-in-law to Geoff and Ann Pepper of Lincolnshire, England. Dear uncle to Ian Pepper and Tracey Wright of England. Alan graduated from the University of Guelph in 1952, and worked for the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture for 35 years. He worked as an economist and yet he managed to find time to run the farm. Alan also volunteered for Meals on Wheels, the Cancer Society as a volunteer driver and canvasser, was an inaugural member of the Kent County Agriculture Hall of Fame, was a board member of the Morpeth Cemetery and was an elder at the Morpeth United Church. Alan was an avid Detroit Tigers fan since 1929 and thoroughly enjoyed supporting his grandchildren at numerous sporting events. Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 76 Main Street East, Ridgetown on Friday from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be conducted at the New Scotland United Church, 11643 New Scotland Line on Saturday, August 7, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Wanda Burse officiating. Interment Morpeth Cemetery.
