Obituary of Hazel DeRooy

DeRooy, Hazel (Marchand)- An angel was called home. We share the loss of a loving mom, “meme”, great grandmother, sister, aunt and dearest friend who passed away on July 27, 2010, at the age of 77, after a courageous battle with cancer. Hazel was predeceased by her husband Ted DeRooy. Loved mother of Carrie (Roger) Sterling, Brian (Shirley) DeRooy, Mike (Christine) DeRooy and devoted grandmother to Craig (Debra) Sterling, Kevin Sterling, Jennifer (fiancée Shean Drummond), Kaylee and Deanna DeRooy, and great grandmother to Jayden DeRooy Drummond. Daughter of the late Alphonse and Phoebe Marchand, daughter-in-law of the late Alphonse and Kristina (Koemen) DeRooy. Sister of Agnes (late Beverley) Bagnell, and predeceased by sister Jean (Hubert) Carson, and brothers Russell (Judy) Marchand, Raymond (Kathleen) Marchand, and Leonard (Janet) Marchand,. Sister-in-law o f Ed (Rowena) DeRooy and the late Rosalie and Ted Hall. She will also be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Hazel was talented in so many ways. She was a seamstress for many years from her home. She loved gardening with her array of flowers. Many people will have fond memories of a smiling petite lady who knit the most beautiful, intricate sweaters. She will always to remembered for her total dedication to her family, whom she cherished every day of her life. Hazel was a member for many years at the Tilbury Lawn Bowling Club. She was an avid curler for many years at the Chatham Granite Club. Hazel was a member of the C.W.L. of St. Agnes Church, Chatham. Cremation has already taken place in accordance with Hazel’s wishes. There will be visitation at the McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair St., Chatham from 7:00-9:00 p.m. on Friday July 30, and from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Saturday July 31 at St. Agnes Church Chatham where a mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. A private burial will take place.
