Obituary of Jerry W. Smith

Smith: Jerry Walter - A Resident of Morpeth and formerly of Woodstock, Ontario and Strathmore, Alberta, passed away at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Chatham Campus on Saturday May 1st, 2010 at the age of 68. Born in Howard Township, son of Margaret (Walters) Smith and the late Lloyd E. Smith. Dear father of Kim and her husband Brent Riach of Burgessville and Todd Smith (Kelley) of Woodstock. Step-father of Michael Shuman (Sherrina) and David and his wife Andrea Shuman of Strathmore, Alberta. Grandfather of Tabatha and Candice Atkinson and Brody Riach. Great Grandfather of Alexis Reading. He is also survived by 2 step-granddaughters Sierra and Payton Shuman. Brother of Carol and Jim Devine of R. R. # 2 Blenheim Jerry is also survived by a longtime companion Diana Shuman of Strathmore, Alberta. He loved the outdoors, was a former member of the Oxford Fish and Game Club and was an enthusiastic hunter and fisherman. As a hobby, he enjoyed many hours working as a taxidermist. Jerry was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Highgate Branch 335. The family will receive friends at the McKinlay Funeral Home, 76 Main Street East, Ridgetown on Sunday, May 9, 2010 from 12:30 p.m. until the Memorial Service at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Al McIntyre officiating. Donations made in memory of Jerry to the Canadian Cancer Society, Ducks Unlimited or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
