Obituary of Sam Scoyne

SCOYNE: Samuel Hugh - A resident of Chatham, Samuel Scoyne passed away peacefully at his residence, on Tuesday, January 12, 2010, surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 74. Beloved husband and best friend of Carolyn Scoyne (nee Russell) for 47 years. Dear father to his two sons Graham and Fraser, and father in-law to Joanne (nee Bryar). Proud and cherished grandfather of Alex Fraser and Hunter Paige. Predeceased by his parents Roy & Margaret and sister Eleanor, wife of the late Douglas Toll. He will be remembered fondly by his sisters in-law, brother in-law, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Sam was born May 31, 1935 in Blenheim Ontario. He spent 40 fulfilling and enjoyable years with his friends and colleagues at Huron Construction. Sam always loved contributing to Park Street United Church and St. Andrew’s United Church and by helping others within Meals on Wheels and always enjoyed his long chats at the grocery store. Sam was an avid hockey fan, and later in life he developed a passion for curling, and again continued to hone his gift of conversation to an art form! Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Friday, January 15, 2010 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. & 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. A Celebration of Sam’s Life will be held at St. Andrew’s United Church, 85 William Street South, Chatham at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 16, 2010 with Rev. Johanna VanderSpek officiating. Private Family interment to take place at Maple Leaf Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations made in memory of Sam to St. Andrew’s United Church, Meals on Wheels, or the charity of one’s choice would be greatly appreciated. Heartfelt thanks to all the doctors, caregivers, as well as friends, neighbors, and family who were there for Sam as he faced the challenges of melanoma since 2006. He was greatly respected by his family and friends and will be deeply missed.
