Today I found out about Eelco.... my heart is saddened by this great mans passing.... he was a kind, sweet man.... his smile made me smile.... I always looked forward knowing he was coming into town.... I would pick him up at the airport at crazy hours and we would drive around from salon to salon.... ALL hopped up on meds from flying we would laugh and have so much fun.... I can remember the little ways his expressions were then he was wanting me to help him.... and I would be so great full to help.... I loved this man for the gentleman he was.... so giving.... so kind.... a beautiful person, friend, and boss he was.... I am so honored to have known you Eelco.... Thank you for trusting me all the years.... Thank you for the friendship we had.... I’m sure the gates in heaven parted when you went home.... God bless you.... God bless your family in his trying time.... the loss of you will truly be missed.... in Jesus name in pray for peace Amen.... with love always Sherry

My strongest sincere sympathy goes out to Ryan & Chrystine who's care & bravery excelled. And to the rest of the family. Eelco was the kindest, heartwarming, fun loving & caring greatest best friend I ever had. He will be so sadly missed by so many friends he has touched in his life. A true legend! His wonderful smile would light up anyone. After one week today, he will be lighting up heaven & will be with Frank & Perry. Hope he will keep that gate open for me as I asked when it is my time. I miss him so much! Glad he is at peace.

One afternoon Eelco and I had a meaningful talk about life, he revealed to me that he was dying. I will never forget his kind words, the strength and courage he had when he knew he had a short time to live. Every time I ride or just even look at his beautiful motorcycle proudly displayed in my garage that I bought from him, I will remember the passion he had for life, but the most important thing to him was the love he had for his family and friends. I know in my heart you are in a much better place than this world. God Bless you my friend, you are missed.

I must say I was shocked to learn of Eelco's state of health about 4 or 5 weeks ago. Truthfully, I am still in shock that he has made his transition.
Our friendship goes back to 1957...one of the longest friendships in my life. Although we lost touch in the 70's, we reconnected in the 80's and I made a point of seeing him when visiting Chatham. I know Steve Hearn will vouch that the 3 of us experienced so many things during those younger years, when we lived on Grand Ave...2 doors away from the Van Minnen family. Yes, some of those experiences got us into trouble. I wouldn't trade those experiences for anything!
Although, I will not be able to attend the service personally, I will most definitely be there fully in spirit!
Eelco, I believe you are now in the next phase of your existence...no health challenges or worries! I will see you again my friend! You will never be forgotten!

So long my friend…
Each time we met through the years it was like seeing each other just yesterday. As young teens, we formed a special friendship. I am blessed and deeply grateful to have spent so much quality time with Eelco through his last seven weeks, all while getting to know Christyn and Ryan who have faced their father's passing with bravery and grace. To them along with Henry, Jerry, John, Steve and families you have my sincere condolences. Eelco, we'll pick it up on the other side. Go with God.

Mauro & I are so very saddened by the loss of one of Chatham's best. Eelco was a good friend and always made us smile. We send our prayers for his family and we know there will be so much love and friendship to help you get through these hard times. Mauro & I will be out of the country and cannot attend; but please know you will be in our thoughts. One of our fond memories is Eelco and I would tease Mauro about how it was better to be Dutch than Italian and each would try to prove the other wrong. We always ended our conversations with "Stay Dutch my friend". Eelco, we will miss you dearly.
