Obituary of Gary Hamilton

HAMILTON: Gary Douglas - A resident of Chatham, and formerly of Alaska, Germany and various Canadian bases, Gary Hamilton passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at the age of 74. Born in Peterborough, Gary was the son of the late Douglas Hamilton and the late Audrey Walker (Richard). Beloved husband of 52 years to Judy (nee Sewell). Loving father of Nancy Taylor (Warren) of Wheatley, Jeff Hamilton of Chatham and Carey Bruyere (Guy) of Chatham. Proud Bappa to David Hamilton, Amy Greyell (Christopher) and Guy Bruyere. Great-Bappa to Jackson and Harlie Greyell. Step-brother to Karen Walker. Predeceased by his brother Wayne Hamilton. Also missed by nieces, nephews, friends and extended family. Gary served 33 years with the Canadian Armed Forces. He served in the army in Germany for 12 years, before remustering to the Canadian Air Force. After retiring, Gary became a commissioned officer for the Navy Sea Cadets. He was an active member at St. Paul's Congregational Church. Gary enjoyed art and music, and was a talented saxophone player. Family will receive friends at St. Paul's Congregational Church, 450 Park Ave W., Chatham on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 from 12:00 p.m. until the Celebration of Gary's Life at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Margaret Moriyama officiating. Cremation has taken place with a private family interment to be held at a later date.
