Obituary of Peter Van Erp

VAN ERP, Peter Peacefully at Village on the Ridge on May 9, 2013 surrounded by his family. Born in the Netherlands in 1924, beloved son of the late Antonius and Ida Van Erp. Loving husband of Helen. Cherished father of Ida Goodreau of Vancouver, Mary and Tony Mahabir of Barbados, Gerald of Aurora, Andy of Kettleby, Joanne and Mike Mervin of Ridgetown, Helen and Nuno Romao of Seattle , and Dianne and Tom Millard of Chatham . Predeceased by Gerard (1950). He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren who were so special to him, Steven and Vanessa Mervin, Daniel and Sara Mervin, Sarah Millard and Mike Lucas, Lindsay Millard, Carl Romao and Courtney Calahoo, Alanna Romao and Steve Goullette, and Marilyn Romao. He is survived by his brother, Lambert in the Netherlands and is predeceased by 11 brothers and sisters. He spent his life working at what he loved, farming in Merlin and Ridgetown. After his retirement he spent many hours scouring auctions and yard sales for tools to fix and send to the orphanage in Belarus through Canadian Aid for Chernobyl. Family to receive friends at the Funeral Home, 76 Main Street East, Ridgetown on Sunday from 2:00-4:00 & 7:00-9:00 p.m. Parish Prayers will take place at 6:45 p.m. followed by Knights of Columbus Prayers. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael's Catholic Church on Monday, May 13, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Martin Johnston as celebrant. Interment to follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery (Howard Township).
