Obituary of Leona Stokes

STOKES, Leona (nee Lowes)...

Peacefully surrounded by family at Copper Terrace on November 28, 2021 Leona Stokes passed away at the age of 91.

Beloved wife of the late Murray Stokes.

Loving mother to Larry (Shirley) Stokes, Bob (Brenda) Stokes, Andy (Cindy) Stokes, Rick Stokes, Brian Stokes, Marla (Paul) LeGroulx and Kevin Stokes.

GG to numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

Sister to Margaret Therrien and Betty (Fred) Siddall.

Predeceased by brother Bill Lowes and his wife Win, and sisters Mary LePage and Lila (Henry) Faubert.

Although she went through training to be a nurse, Leona decided to stay at home and raise an incredible family. Her presence will be greatly missed.

The family wish to thank the nurses and staff at Copper Terrace for their fantastic care of Leona during the last year of her life.

Family and friends are asked to come and share in times of memories and fellowship on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham between the hours of 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 7:00pm to 9:00pm. Those wishing to attend must be pre-registered which can be done on the funeral home website or by calling the funeral home at 519-351-2040.  Please note the Bereavement Authority of Ontario requires all those in attendance of a visitation or funeral to wear a mask. A  private funeral service will be live-streamed at 11:00am, Wednesday, December 1, 2021 on the funeral home website. Cremation will follow and interment will take place on Monday, December 6th, 2021 at 11:00am at Maple Leaf Cemetery, Chatham. Everyone is welcome to the interment.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations in honour of Leona be made to Canadian Cancer Society
