To the entire DeVito family, it's obvious by reading all of the kind words that all of you know how special Ben was to everyone. Not only did Ben and Nic do all of our masonry work for our business for many years they both worked on our personal builds. It was so amazing to see both Ben Nic work so well together, well most of the time that is, when you heard the loud Italian words coming out and they both went to separate areas of the house but within minutes they would be back working together on the same wall. The time Ben spent with my children on the jobsite, genuinely asking how they were , what they were up to, how school was going, teaching both my son and daughter Italian, having the patience to actually let both lay stones on our house, lessons and conversations they'll never forget. On many rain days Ben would stop in our shop and we would just talk about our families, our community, sports and if any time left then business, but always the other things first. Christine you had one amazing husband, Jessica and Faith your father was such an honest and genuine man, Nic and Giovanna you truly raised a dedicated Son, Husband, Father and Brother, your family values came out in Ben every single day, Be proud. Ben, I'm certainly going to miss our weekly chats and visits, Your Friends, Matt, Denise, Colin, Raegan McKay

The girls and I were devastated to hear the news. This world has lost a man who was larger than life. I grew up with Ben, he always made me laugh. Always found a way to make everyone laugh and included everyone who was around him. Ben loved and accepted everyone around him, even in high school. The Graves family and all of our Patene Building Supplies family are thinking and talking about Ben. Still hoping he will walk through our doors any minute. Ben would always joke around with all the staff at the office or on job sites truly happy to see us all. We are thankful Ben was a BIG part of our masonry family and he will be missed always.
Ben would always march up to my office for a chat about family first, see how everyone was doing, then talk jobs he was working on and planning for. Oh yes sports!! Ben loved his soccer team recently boasting Italy beating England, to our English driver-priceless!!
I have known Ben for 18 plus years and still cannot believe I will not see my good friend. God must have needed a Great Mason, he definitely has one now. As they say "A life that touches others goes on forever" RIP our friend!!

I am truthfully loss for words , uncertain what to write here. I’ve known Ben for many years now it seems, I started playing volleyball and basketball against Ben in elementary school, Only to play on the same teams as Ben at the senior levels at the Pines . Years later our children went to George P Vanier together . As years followed I would continuously bump into Ben on the same construction sites. Through these many years he always remained; smiling , laughing , hard working , friendly and just a pleasure to talk to. Well done Ben . Thinking of all his family at this time . Ben and I went to grade school together and had an absolute blast growing up in 'birdland'. Some of my favourite memories growing up involve horsing around with Ben after school and on weekends. I was always pleased to see him and catch up when our paths crossed over the last 3 decades. He was always quick to greet everybody with a big, inviting and warm smile. Both Erin and I were devastated and at a loss for words when we heard of Ben's passing. If ever the saying "only the good die young" was applicable, it applies to Ben. His passing is such an injustice to his friends and family that it makes me question the why's and how's of the world making any sense at all. As everyone is also saying, I've met few people in my life as genuine as Ben. I was fortunate enough to be around him more times than I can count, and although we didn't live near each other, he always approached me and spoke to me as though our friendship went back many decades. I met Ben not long after starting to date Erin, and we ran into each other at funerals, weddings, and family events in Canada. Whenever I saw him, he always made it a point to pull me aside and say, "Stephen - you're family," which technically of course we were, but we were both in-laws in a vast family that spanned many cousins, sisters, and aunts/uncles. When Ben said "you're family" I knew he truly meant it, and it always made me feel so good to hear that from him. The thing I think I remember the most about Ben was the look in his eyes when he would ask me how I was doing or what the latest news was from our side of the world. Not only was there a deep care in his eyes in asking that question - it was never a passing, throw-away question as some people use it -- but there was also and most importantly an overwhelming optimism in his eyes unlike any I've seen in another person asking that question. His eyes radiated optimism that whatever was coming would be great news. Ben seemed to be on the edge of his seat, eager to hear good news, and excited to share in the joy of basically anything I could say or bring up. To me, he believed in the best in people, and in situations, while remaining grounded and real at the same time. He was also just hilarious, and many different times we made each other laugh hysterically, which drew me even closer to him. I wasn't around him as much as I wish I could have been, but my time around Ben was valuable, real, caring, and genuine. He loved Erin and me like we were his brother and sister. That's who he was and who he will always be to Erin and me - the best attributes you could hope for in a person, all rolled up into one. We miss you Ben, we love you, and our hearts are broken that you're gone. I hope to share some laughs and ask YOU how you're doing in heaven some day! We love you so much. -Stephen & Erin

Ben you were the salt of the earth….
I do not think I will ever meet such a kind person that truly took the time to say Hi, and ask how you were doing. Not only did you do this with Michael and I, but also our daughter Mia who is 10. You were interested in people and genuine.
I can remember daily seeing you on Braemar while you were going to work or leaving, always stopping to have a chit chat. My last conversation was just a mere few days ago and you were expressing how much you wanted to travel and get away with your beautiful family. I am saddened this did not happen.
Heaven has certainly gained a special man.
Ben, I am certainly honoured to have known you and share the chats we have had. You will continue to protect your lovely wife and kids.

Our sincere condolences to his family, his Dad and his gracious wife. A man that we shared stories with on the Job. A kind and tremendous heart, a true gentleman. His kindness and love for others will be greatly missed. I will remember him as we pass by the jobs he has completed, and will have constant memories of the great times we shared together. Our family first had the pleasure of meeting Ben and Christine at George P Vanier school where they were so involved with their beautiful daughters, Jessica and Faith and in the school community. Everyone knew how much he loved all his girls and how important family was to him. He was definitely one of the good guys and will miss seeing him when walking by with my pup. Shocked and saddened to hear this news. Ben was always smiling and cheerful whenever our family bumped into him in town. Did wonderful work on our home years ago and I remember how good he was with our son, showing him how to lay bricks. Never thought we wouldn't have an opportunity to use his skills in the future. A light has been dimmed in this world. He will be missed by so many people. Our hearts go out to his entire family - he was truly a great man who made a difference to everyone he encountered. Every single day I waved and said hello to Ben. Every. Single. Day. It was either in the early morning, or after a days work, in his parents driveway. Why??? Because that is who he was. A loving family man. Often ift was a wave on the weekend, or a holiday or watching over the “tomato sauce factory” in the fall, in their garage. So palpably Devoted, to his wife, girls and parents. I saw that every day. Incredibly saddened to hear of your passing Ben. You were a kind and gentle guy, who always had a smile and friendly wave for those in your parents neighbourhood. I am deeply, deeply sorry your family has lost you. You will be missed beyond words.

Ben was one of the greatest men I've ever known. He really had it all - a true class act. He loved his girls fiercly and enjoyed every moment of life with all the people who surrounded him.
