A resident of Chatham, Sun Jung passed away at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Chatham Campus on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at the age of 62.
Born in Gongju, South Korea, Sun was the son of the late Chul Joon and Soon Nyeo (Suh) Jung.
Beloved husband to Jiwon Kim.
Loving father of Jason Jung of Thornhill, Joanna Jung of Thornhill, Kheun-Dte Jung of Chatham and Soh-Lee Jung of Chatham.
Sun will be missed by many brothers and sisters in South Korea.
Master Sun held a Taekwondo 9th Dan Blackbelt registered in the Kukkiwon. He attended Incheon College where he earned a diploma in Physical education. From 1971 to 1985 Master Sun won numerous national and provincial Taekwondo championships. In 1986 he immigrated to Canada and has since called Chatham home. He opened Sun's Taekwondo where he has mentored thousands of children and adults in the martial arts for the past 34 years. After retiring from competition, Master Sun went on to become an accredited World Taekwondo Federation International referee. He also had the honour of Coaching team Canada and Ontario on the national and world stage. Master Sun was the Senior Vice President of The Federation of Korean-Canadian Associations, President of the Korean-Canadian Association of Chatham-Kent, member of the Taekwondo Association of Canada and Ontario, and President of Chatham Taekwondo.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private family service was held.
