Master Sun Jung was hugely important in my childhood and into my adult life, having remained friends with my family over the years. I started classes at Master Jung's Taekwondo school when I was 9 years old, and competed with his encouragement at competitions that took us to many different Canadian and American cities. There was often a Korean feast, and so many evenings of fun and laughter. He helped out both me and my family, remaining a caring presence in my life even though I've lived away from Chatham for many years. He always kept in touch, and offered welcome advice and ideas - showing (as he often has) how much he cared about the community and about us kids who later became adults who had once been his students, as well as their families. An example of community-mindedness and a way of life that encouraged both self-reliance as well as care for others, he was an enormous and positive presence in my childhood and remained a positive force into my adult life. He will be sorely missed.

I am saddened to hear of the passing of Master Jung. I believe that I was one of Master Jung's first students, practicing in the makeshift dojo upstairs above Clem's bookshop. It was at the same time that he was coaching Yvonne Franssen for the 1988 Olympics in Soeul. It was a remarkable experience to have been instructed by a master of a martial art who had just moved over from the country where it originated. Master Jung's English was not strong at the time but as he was determined in his instruction this was no barrier to communication. In fact, I remember to this day a story about a soldier on the front line that was a lesson in patience and skill. Master Jung certainly had a positive influence on me and many others. The fact that my father mentioned many years later Master Jung's many efforts to build ties between Canada and Korea attests to this fact, as he was not at all keen on my chosen past time at the time! Rest in peace, Master Jung. I would like to express my condolences to his family, a few of which I remember meeting as little rug rats at his home many years ago.

We have fun memories of Canada Day parades, meeting other parents & students, hosting Korean students and trips with them and participating in activities arranged by Master Sun.

In 1994,I had the opportunity of working with Master Sun..he said that I was a quick learner, but he also knew that I was a very special student and he worked with me one on one. I was not able to continue my lessons as things became to hard for me to continue..I will always remember Master Sun for his kindness.

My heart is sad on the passing of a kind-hearted and loving man as Master Myung Sun Jung. Past Mayor Randy Hope, Duncan Davidson and I had the pleasure of attending the Ontario Newcomer Award ceremony in Toronto Ontario. Master Jung deserved this honour as he had put his heart into Chatham-Kent. My two children Justin and Christopher competed in many a tournament that he coordinated and others that they attended as representatives of Sun's Taekwondo all over Ontario and into Port Huron. Master Jung had arranged for the Junior Nationals to take place in Chatham-Kent where a number of Taekwondo Students competed including my two sons in the Black Belt competitions under his direction.
For many he will be remembered for the number of Easter and Christmas dinners that he arranged for the less fortunate individuals in our community. I also had enjoyed assisting him with coordinating Korean Teenagers to come to Chatham and live with Home-stay families in the Winter and Summer. My family participating in hosting over 16 students in our home.
Master Jung may you rest in peace with love knowing that you will be missed.

It is with heart breaking that I just found out about my good friends death. Master sun was a good man to the community of Chatham Kent. We met in 1990 and stayed in contact but with Covid has affected friendships ability to get together. To the family I extended our prayers and blessings. I had to take some time to think about my words as I am still at a complete loss. You watched me grow from the age of 5. I've spent many years of my life learning from you, growing as a person and a student. You have seen my victories as well as my failures. We had many parties , karaoke nights , the camping trips, competitions and I could go on and on.
I will never forget what you have done for me and just how much you mean to me. Thank you master sun. Kamsahamnida.
And to master suns family, my deepest condolences to you. May you find all the comfort you need in this time.
