MIERAS: Jacobus 'Jake' -
Peacefully on May 3, 2019 Jacobus (Jake) Mieras born January 27, 1933 passed at Tilbury Manor. Survived by his wife of 59 years Eleonora (nee Neutens), his son Jan (Janet), daughter, Carol Ann (Yola) and grandchildren Khyrsten, Kelsy, Karl (Rana), Kelly (Jeff) and Jakob. Dear brother to Sjaan Leeuwenburg (late Piet) of The Netherlands.
Jake was born in Barendrecht, The Netherlands, he immigrated to Canada in 1951. He began his life as a farm hand before embarking on a career as a stationary engineer. He worked for Libbys foods and Union Gas before taking his skills to healthcare at Credit Valley Hospital, Mississauga and St. Joseph's, Chatham.
He loved to share his knowledge and skills with others. He taught stationary engineering at St. Clair College Chatham. He was a true handy man always willing to help his neighbours and family. When not fixing, building or organizing he spent hours with his stamp and coin collections. He shared his love of coins with his grandchildren, building a collection for each of them over many years. A gift and memory of him they will always have.
He will be missed by family and friends however we are smiling knowing he is organizing the world beyond. We love you Dad.
Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Sunday, May 5, 2019 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm. A Celebration of Jake's Life will be held at the Funeral Home at 11:00 am on Monday, May 6, 2019. Cremation to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations made in memory of Jake to the Alzheimer Society, Heart & Stroke Foundation or Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
