Obituary of Sylvio Letourneau

LETOURNEAU: Sylvio Victor -

Passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at the Chatham-Kent Hospice. He was born on October 10, 1920 and just celebrated 98 years of age. He is predeceased by his wife Blanche (L'Ecuyer) in 2012 and an infant daughter Joanne (1946).

Surviving him are his children Annette Shine (Bob Scott), Tom (Sandi), Michael (Christine - predeceased in 2007) and Mark.

Adding to his family are his beloved grandchildren: Greg Shine (Monique), Lori McDonnell (Brian), Jason Shine (Andrea), Jessica Letourneau, Jolene Medenblik (Aaron), Jackie Gold (Brandon), Holly McCutcheon (Steven), Darcy Letourneau and Julia Letourneau.

He also welcomed and treasured his 13 great-grandchildren.

Syl as a young man played baseball for Grande Pointe and Chatham with his team winning the Juvenile Ontario Championship in 1938. He farmed all of his life in Dover and was a lifelong member of St. Philippe Parish. For the past 3 1/2 years his home was the Village on the Thames where he made many friends. The family would like to express an immense gratitude to the amazing Hospice staff. Their compassion and care went above and beyond. We would also like to thank Syl's caring support staff at the retirement home.

Syl was the last surviving member of his family, having been predeceased by his parents Sylvestre and Marie (Emery) and his siblings Gloria Toulouse (Russ), Regina Demers (Ernest), Sylva Letourneau (Marion), Maria Marentette (Romeo) and Doreen DeClark (Charles).

Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Friday from 2:00 - 4:00pm and 6:00 - 8:00pm and on Saturday, November 24, 2018 from 12:00 - 2:00pm . Vigil Prayers will be held Friday at 6:00pm.

Mass will be celebrated at Immaculee Conception Roman Catholic Church, Pain Court at 3:00pm on Saturday.

Cremation to follow with a private family burial to follow at a later date. Family would ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation in Syl's memory.
