Tuesday, May 8, 2018Judy ... Ken & Lisa, Janice & Dan, Jennifer and Families, I am so very sorry to learn of Tom's recent death. Over the past couple of days, as I've been re-playing some of the many memories of my "beloved Aunt Mae's Favourite Son, Tom" (I know she told each of the boys they were her favourite - don't be jealous Marlene, she always included you too!). The rolling memory tape stopped at an image of Tom in his teen years - reporting for work at our family farm & McCormick Silos Ltd. Tom was a very handsome sun-tanned young man ... lots of flowing hair ... a terrific smile ... and always ready to tease his young cousins ... and give us a ride in his truck. Tom was a very warm, caring and generous man. He usually had a few pops in his truck to share with us young'uns (a big summer treat in those days). Whenever the McCormick clan gathered (weddings, anniversaries, family picnics, BBQ's and summer days spent at the local beaches), it was always a time of tasty food and treats, many cousins of varying ages getting to know one another, teasing one another, sharing plenty of fun and laughter ... and making special memories together. That is what I think of when I think of the strong man Tom was ... physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually ... because he was my "Aunt Mae's beloved son" - She raised her children well ... during a very difficult time in her life. They all carry her cherished values. I'm sorry I am unable to attend Tom's visitation and funeral service. As the Pettit & McCormick families gather for his service, it is my plan to take a nice long walk in the foothills of the stunningly beautiful Canadian Rockies ... thinking of Tom ... thinking of his family ... and how much he loved each of you. May the wonderful memories you share always hold a special place in your heart. Nancy McCormick - Calgary
