Obituary of Harvey Brooks

A resident of Chatham, formerly of Croton, Harvey Brooks peacefully passed away at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance - Chatham Campus on Thursday, September 21, 2017 in his 92nd year. 

Harvey was the son of the late Arlington & Janet (nee Inglis) Brooks. 

Loving husband of Barbara (nee Burrell), who would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on Friday, September 22, 2017.

Father of Murray & Debbie (nee Langille) Brooks of Chatham, Richard & Janet (nee McGowan) Brooks of Chatham, Cheryl (nee Brooks) & Al Millyard of St. Thomas, and Sheila (nee Brooks) & Jeff Willing of Windsor. 

Grandpa of 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. 

Predeceased by his siblings, Jack Brooks, Hazel Stapinski, Bruce Brooks and Donald Brooks, brother-in-law, Robert Burrell and wife, Faye, and brother-in-law, George Burrell. 

Survived by brother-in-law, Glen Burrell & wife Roseanna of BC, sister-in-law, Dorothy Brooks of SK and sister-in-law, Catherine Burrell of Ridgetown. 

Missed by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces & great-nephews. 

Harvey farmed in Croton until 1979 after which he moved to Chatham where he worked for Pioneer Seeds until retirement. He was an active member of the Comet Rebekah Lodge, and past member of the Oddfellows - Thamesville. Harvey was known around the city as an avid cyclist up until the age of 90 and enjoyed traveling with Barbara, all over North & South America.  

Many thanks to the staff on the 4th floor of the CKHA, Dr. Hastings & Sydenham Retirement Residence for their care and compassion for Harvey. 

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, September 24, 2017 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm and 7:00 - 9:00 pm at McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham. A Funeral Service in celebration of Harvey's life will be at the Funeral Home on Monday at 11:30 am with Rev. Jamie Tiffin as officiant. Interment to follow in Mayhew-Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Thamesville. 

In memory of Harvey, memorial contributions may be made to the CNIB or the Canadian Cancer Society.
