A resident of Chatham, George Wortner passed away at home on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at the age of 85.

Born in Harwich Township, George was the son of the late Peter and Mary (Brecka) Wortner.

Beloved husband of 64 years to Cecilia 'Cecile' (nee Cernanec).

Loving father of Peter Wortner (Linda) of Chatham and the late Lynda Mae Raymond (2013).

Proud grandfather of Andrew Lucan (Nikki) of Alvinston and Jonathan Wortner, Timothy Wortner and Nathaniel Wortner, all of Chatham.

Great-grandfather to Brett Lucan and Hunter Lucan.

Brother to Stanley Wortner (Clara) of Bothwell.

Also missed by nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.

George bred cattle for the Oxford and District Cattle Breeding Association for 12 years before founding Wortner Gun Works in 1964, which he ran with his family. He was a member of the Trails End Range, the Dresden Gun Club, the National Rifle Association, the Ontario Muzzle Loading Association, the A.T.A. Trap Shooting Association, and the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association. George enjoyed shooting, working in the shop and gunsmithing.

Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street Chatham on Sunday, August 13, 2017 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

A Funeral Service will be held at the Funeral Home at 11:00 am on Monday, August 14, 2017. Interment to follow at St. Anthony Cemetery, Chatham.

Donations made in memory of George to the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
