Obituary of Ron D. Stead

STEAD, RONALD D. (Sr.): At the CKHA, Chatham Campus, on Monday, December 5, 2011, Ronald Duncan Stead Sr. of Chatham passed away at the age of 75. Beloved husband of Betty Stead. Ron was born in London, Ontario in 1936 and is the son of the late Allen and Margaret Stead (nee Timmiss). Ron was an accomplished athlete and avid supporter of the sport of baseball. He was inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 2006 in recognition of an extraordinary baseball “pitching” career that was marked with records that still stand to this day. He was a member of the gold medal winning Canada Games team (Ontario, 1969) amongst several other extraordinary achievements in the sport. Ron was a proud retiree of Union Gas, honoured by the naming of the “Stead House” training facility on Bloomfield Road in Chatham. He is survived by children: Ron (Nancy), David (Debi), and Heather (Steve) Donaghey of Chatham. Predeceased by son Jeff (Sarah and husband Jeff Moon). Cherished grandfather of Rachel (Josh), Aaron, Tyler Hime, Kevin, Amanda (Matt), Emily Hime, Sarah Richards, April, Andrew, Shelby, Tate, Daniel, Liam, and Elenna. Great-grandfather of Mason and Gage. Predeceased by sister Daphne and survived by brothers Allen, Derick and sister Valerie. Friends will be received at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair St., Chatham on Thursday, December 8, from 2:00-4:00 & 7:00-9:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be conducted at the Funeral Home on Friday, December 9, 2011 at 11 a.m. Cremation to follow.
