Obituary of Athannassios 'Tom' Babalis

BABALIS: A resident of Chatham, Athannassios "Tom" Babalis, passed away at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance on Sunday, April 9, 2006 at the age of 70. Born in Greece, son of the late Demetrios and Anna (Dassios) Babalis. Beloved husband of Georgia (Selini) Babalis. Dear father of Jim Babalis and wife Cathy of Chatham, Chris Babalis and wife Yula of Richmond Hill, Maryanne Stathopoulos and husband Tasos of Kitchener. Loving grandfather of Thanasi, Bobby, Jorja and Panayioti Babalis, and Nektaria Stathopoulos. Brother of Kosta Babalis and wife Mary of Chatham, Stamatia Babalis of Leamington, Maria Liovas and husband Kosta of Leamington, Nick Babalis and wife Assimoula of Greece. He will also be missed by many nephews, nieces and cousins. Tom was a founding and long-time member of St. Nektarios Greek Orthodox Church, Chatham. He was the former owner of the Tasty Lunch Restaurant and had been retired for the past 9 years. Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Tuesday from 2:00-4:30 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be conducted at St. Nektarios Greek Orthodox Church, Grand Avenue East, Chatham on Wednesday, April 12, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Demetrios Chelonis officiating. Interment Maple Leaf Cemetery, Chatham. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Nektarios Greek Orthodox Church, Chatham.
