A resident of Chatham, Velma Hawgood passed away at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance - Chatham Campus with her family at her side on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at the age of 84.
Born in Camden Township, Velma was the daughter of John and Rose (Tong) Anderson.
Beloved wife of the late John Galbraith (1983) and the late Elmer Hawgood (2001).
Loving mother to Jennifer Hainer (Patrick) of Chatham, Elaine Kenny (Rob) of Barrie and Kathy Beattie of Barrie. Mother-in-law to Karen Cronmiller of Windsor. Predeceased by her daughter Rose Hawgood (1999) and her sons Teddy Cronmiller (2012), Clifford Galbraith (2012), William Cronmiller (1964), William Hawgood (2008) and Michael Hawgood.
Proud Grandma of 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter.
Predeceased by her brothers Robert, Orville and Hilton Ellis.
Also missed by many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.
Velma enjoyed her friendships with the residents and staff at Copper Terrace.
Family will receive friends at the McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Wednesday from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 30, 2017 with Captain Andrew Watkinson officiating. Cremation to follow with a private family interment to be held at Maple Leaf Cemetery at a later date.
