Obituary of Murray Stokes

STOKES: Murray - A resident of Chatham, and formerly of Blenheim, Murray Stokes passed away peacefully at his residence on Friday, October 21, 2016 in his 89th year. Born in Chatham, Murray was the son of the late Oscar and Margaret (Wightman) Stokes. Beloved husband of 66 years to Leona (nee Lowes). Loving father of Larry Stokes (Shirley) of Tobermory, Bob Stokes (Brenda) of Wallaceburg, Andy Stokes (Cindy) of Chatham, Rick Stokes of Chatham, Brian Stokes of Blenheim, Marla LeGroulx (Paul) of Victoria, B.C. and Kevin Stokes of Oil Springs. Proud grandfather of Darryl Stokes (Stacey), Heather Davidson (Cam), Jaramie Stokes (Tracy), Mark Stokes (Ellen), Vicki Dunn (Kevin), Ryan Stokes (Cathy), Rebecca Vickers (Rob), Mitchell Stokes (Erin), Nicole Stokes, David Stokes, Joshua LeGroulx, Ashley Michelski (Matt), Courtney LeGroulx and Trevor LeGroulx. Great-grandfather to 18 great-grandchildren. Dear brother to Marilyn Marchand (Cliff) of Chatham, Myra Lovell (Keith) of Exeter and Gerald Stokes (Norma) of Sudbury. Brother-in-law to Margaret Therrien of Newbury and Betty Siddall (Fred) of Chatham. Predeceased by sisters-in-law Mary LePage and Lila Faubert (Henry) and brother-in-law Bill Lowes (Winnifred). Also missed by many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family. Murray retired after working 46 years as an IBEW Local 773 electrician. He was a model train aficionado and was a member of the Chatham Model Railroad Club for many years. He was also a former Boy Scout Leader at Sprucedale United Church. Family will receive friends at the McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Monday from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at the Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. on Murray's birthday, Tuesday, October 25, 2016 with Pastor Sunni Shular officiating. Cremation to follow with a private family interment to be held at Maple Leaf Cemetery at a later date. Donations made in memory of Murray to the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, Lambton County Developmental Services or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
