Obituary of Harry Houston Keil

KEIL, Harry Houston - C October 9, 1928 - June 18, 2016 Beloved husband of Carole Jean Bingham (Bashford) Keil, he passed away peacefully surrounded by family in St. George, Utah. Born and raised in Raleigh Township, Kent County, Harry was a fixture in his community and widely respected as a fair and honest man. A proud and hard-working fourth-generation farmer, Harry was the son of the late James Wesley Keil and Cora Edith Houston. His grandfather, Charles A. Keil, was an inspiration to him. Nothing made Harry happier than to be on the tractor and he dedicated most of his life to working the family farm. When not farming, Harry could be found on the ski slopes or riding one of his beloved horses. Harry enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends and a faithful dog or two. Harry grew up as part of the Wesley United Church, and was regarded as a core member of the congregation, serving as a steward for many years. Later he became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Harry will be well remembered for his charm and sense of humour, and his love of life. Father of Martha (and Anna) and Charlie (and Cathy), he is also survived by sister Dorothy Clark, nephew James (and Ruth) Clark, and cousin David (and Julie) Rhodes. He was also father to Tom Bashford, Kent (and Lynda) Bashford, Sharon (and Mark) Christensen, Karla (and Marty) Phipps, and Kelly (and Chris) Ward and grandpa to 22 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Harry’s life will take place at his home farm, Keilcroft Farms on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at 7544 8th Line, Raleigh Township, where he was born and raised, beginning at 10:00 a.m. . A Memorial at Maple Leaf Cemetery will follow for family and close friends at 1:00 p.m. Dress is casual. In lieu of flowers, donations made in memory of Harry to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. Online condolences may be left at www.mckinlayfuneralhome.com.
