Obituary of John David Hoy

Peacefully passed away surrounded by family at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance on Monday, May 2, 2016. He was born in Fletcher on September 13, 1925, son of the late David Hoy & Gertrude Gilhuly. Predeceased by his wife Dolores (DeWitte) 1990 and Dorothy (Foster Jenner) 2015. Loving father of the late infant son Thomas (1949), Pat & Debbie Hoy, Michael Hoy & Maureen Durnin, Dan & Barb Hoy, Paul & Amber Hoy, Marie Hoy & Don Bruce. Grandfather of Ryan Hoy, Erin & Scott Agnello, Alexis Hoy & Thomas Mahon, Joshua Hoy, Sarah Hoy & Helen Grover, Colin Hoy and Fatima Khalil, Shannon & Brian Gapp, Alicia Hoy & Kevin LaLonde, Drew Hoy. Great Grandfather to Trent, Macy, Conner, Hadwyn and Nathaniel. Step father to Lori & Wayne Carr and Lisa & Ken Blonde. Step grandfather to Austin, Tyson, Bianca Carr, Jordan Blonde & Miranda Verellen, Jackson, James Blonde. Step great-grandfather to Violet. Brother to Loretta Hoy. Predeceased by brothers Jerome, Justin, Vincent, Bernard, and by sisters Marion, Lenore, Genevieve, Maureen, and Angela. Brother-in-law to Al & Margaret DeWitte, Denise and the late Archie DeWitte, Ed and the late Ann Westelaken, Jean & Russell Smith, Margaret & Robert Watson, and Rose and the late Robert Foster. John will be remembered by many nieces and nephews. John worked as a Station Agent for the New York Central Railway for 17 years. He was always drawn to his first love of farming which he did with his family in Tilbury East and Raleigh Township. He joined the Knights of Columbus in 1967 and is an Honourary Member. John was a member of St. Patrick's Parish, Merlin and St. Ursula Parish, Chatham. He also attended St. Paul's Congregational Church with his late wife, Dorothy. Family and friends will be received at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Sunday from 2:00-4:00 & 7:00-9:00 p.m. Vigil Prayers at 6:30 p.m. followed by the Knights of Columbus Prayers. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Ursula's Catholic Church, 205 Tweedsmuir Avenue West, Chatham on Monday, May 9, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Merlin. Those wishing to leave an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Chatham-Kent Outreach for Hunger or the Chatham-Kent Hospice.
