Obituary of Richard MacLachlan

MacLACHLAN: Richard "Dick" Oswald Daniel MacLachlan, beloved husband of Donna (Owen) for 56 years, passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2006 at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance at the age of 79. Born in Chatham, son of the late Richard and Elsie (Schultze) MacLachlan. Loving father to two daughters, Linda Dwyer and her husband Don of Ajax, Diane Gordon and her husband Tim of Chatham, and one son Robert and his wife Pamela Blondia of Tupperville. Richard was a Stationary Engineer at International Truck & Engine for 37 1/2 years, retiring in 1985 due to ill health. He was also a life member and past elder of St. Andrew's United Church. Past Master of Wellington Lodge No. 46 A.F.A.M., Member of Scottish Rite Lodge of Perfection and the Kent Chapter of the Rose Croix, Moore Sovereign Consistory, Hamilton, Mocha Temple Shrine, London, Ahcom Shrine Club, Chatham. Past First Principal Wellington-MacNabb Chapter No.47 and Past Grand Steward of Grand Chapter. Member of Kent Preceptroy No.20, Babylon Council No.11, Royal Ark Mariners, York Rite Sovereign College No.9, St. John Conclave No.11, Windsor, Chatham Council No.123 of the Allied Masonic Degrees of Canada. In May, 2002, Richard received the Gold Honour Award in recognition of his outstanding service in York Rite Masonry by the York Rite College of North America. In November, 2004, he received an Emblem honouring his fifty years as a Mason. He is survived by two sisters, Helen Arnold and Elsie Lou MacLachlan and her fiancé Bob Cumming, all of Chatham, a niece Nancy Berry and her husband Michael of Stoney Creek, an Aunt, Arletta (Schultze) Hass of Pembroke. He is predeceased by a brother-in-law George Arnold (1984). He dearly loved his grandchildren and will be sadly missed by six grandchildren, Trevor Hiltz, Ryan, Kristyn and Ethan Dwyer, Sarah and Emily MacLachlan, and one step-granddaughter Ashley Gordon. Family will receive friends at the McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Sunday from 2:00-4:30 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 13, 2006 from the Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Brooks of St. Andrew's United Church officiating. A Masonic Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Funeral Home. Interment Maple Leaf Cemetery, Chatham. Donations, made by cheque, to Shriners' Children Hospital, Montreal or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
