Obituary of Bertha Vida Schives

SCHIVES: Bertha Vida (nee Lewis) age 93, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family at Meadow Park Nursing Home in Chatham on Saturday, August 26, 2006. Bertha was born in Chatham on December 9, 1912. She was the beloved wife of 66 years of Grant Schives, presently residing at Meadow Park. She was the cherished mother of Robert Schives and his wife Karen. She was the dearly loved grandmother of Linda Lennox of Toronto, Heather and her husband Duane Morrison of Waterloo, and Beth Lennox and her husband Peter Kowalewski of Cambridge, cherished great-grandmother of Olivia and Andrew Morrison and James Kowalewski. Bertha is survived by her sister Win McCubbin, also residing at Meadow Park. She is survived by her sister-in-law Gwen Henderson also of Meadow Park, sister-in-law Jeanette Quinn of Chatham, and sister-in-law Helen Schives of Halifax. She was predeceased by her brother Bill Lewis of Dresden. Bertha will be sadly missed by her niece Dianne and her husband Willie Tolman of Tupperville and by her nephews, Bob Lewis of Riverview Gardens in Chatham, Ron McCubbin of Chatham, Paul McCubbin and his wife Elona of Guelph, and Bruce McCubbin and his wife Holly of Chatham. Bertha attended McKeough Public School and graduated from Chatham Collegiate Institute. Before she was married she worked at S.S. Kresge in the hardware department. Bertha was a member of St. James Presbyterian Church. She will be remembered for her charming wit, her keen sense of humour and her loving concern for her family. Friends and family may visit at McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair St., Chatham on Wednesday, August 30 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at McKinlay Funeral Home on Thursday, August 31 at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. John Giurin officiating. Interment at Stewart Cemetery in Tilbury East. Expressions of sympathy may be made by contributing by cheque to the Memorial Fund of St. James Presbyterian Church or a charity of your choice. Special thank you to all the staff at Meadow Park Nursing Home for the excellent care that Bertha received.
